Frequently Asked Questions
DO I NOT NEED TO BE FIT BEFORE I START?
One of the most common misconceptions of getting into CrossFit or functional fitness is that you need to go and train first before being able to do it. Nonsense. The beauty of CrossFit and functional training is that EVERYTHING is scaleable to the level and ability you are at. It’s our job as a coach to help you figure that part out so don’t worry. Just show up with who you are (not who you wish you were) and as you progress so will the intensity, skills and versions of the movements you do.
What do i need to bring or wear?
Comfortable and suitable gym attire that will allow you to move in many different directions and will be durable for those tasks. Footwear should be robust as they will endure running, jumping, weightlifting as well as contact with walls and ropes.
In colder weather, bring layers until you have warmed up appropriately and for when you have cooled down again.
do i need to have done crossfit or functional training to be able to jump in to a class?
If you have previous experience of at least 6 months of CrossFit then you would be able to jump straight in at the discretion of the coach. If you have less than that or no experience at all then an on-ramp or beginners bootcamp would be your next step so as to skill you up and prepare you best to kick on in class. We provide all of these steps to help you on your way.
what if i don’t like it or change my mind?
That is not a problem whatsoever. I love CrossFit and functional training because I believe it’s ACCESSIBLE TO anybody of any ability or level of fitness. However that doesn’t mean its FOR everyone and I would strongly encourage everyone to find something that they love enough to show up consistently to and have fun with along the way. If this isn’t for you then I’ll help point you in the direction of what else is out there.
You’re also not tied into any yearly contracts, just 30 days notice and you’re good to go. No awkwardness, no slinking out through the door. . . It’s high-5’s, fist pumps and thank you’s, so don’t ever let that stop you giving something a go.
CAN I JUST COME IN AND DO MY OWN THING?
When coming to ‘coached class’ times you are encouraged to do the programmed workout for the day with the rest of the class. Class takes priority and is where the coaches attention will be and priority of equipment.
Exeptions can be agreed with the coach if working towards a particular goal or undergoing injury rehabilitation for example.
When coming to ‘Open Gym’ times, you are free to do your own thing, being mindful of other users in the gym at that time, and if you have nay questions, just ask a coach.
WHAT IF I CAN’T DO ANY OF THE MOVEMENTS IN THE WORKOUT?
This is more common than you may think and puts you in good company. The truth is, whatever the movement or exercise, there’s a version of it that you can do.
It’s the absolute beauty of the training we do, and the job of the coach, to help you find what version or ‘scale’ of that movement you can do.
What makes classes so great is everybody doing the same workout, but each individual having a version tailored to their abilities.
HOW DO I KEEP TRACK OF PROGRESS & WORKOUTS?
Fitness should be measurable, observable and repeatable. This is a core principle shared by CrossFit. If fitness remains vague with ambiguous outcomes then how do we know if we are truly taking new ground.
Through our online app and platform, you can track and record your progress and should you ever re do a workout, will have that data at hand to be able to compare and assess performance.
I LIKE WHAT I SEE, HOW DO I GET STARTED?
Simply get in touch via the links on this website or the address and number provided. From there, depending on training experience, you will either be steered towards your first class as a trial and see how you get on, or a beginner bootcamp to get you skilled up. Easy.
